What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for Ceramic Reconstruction. It is the latest dental technology to restore the teeth to original shape with proper function and excellent aesthetics in one single visit. With the use of the latest 3D digital image scanning unit, the teeth are captured and digitized. The CEREC restoration is designed by our trained and experienced CEREC dentist and then milled with the wireless milling unit. After proper glazing and polishing the natural looking dental filling CEREC restoration will be placed on the tooth.

What are the steps of the CEREC process?

Step 1:  Our dentist at Riverview Dental Clinic will examine your tooth, evaluate, and advise you about the appropriate treatment. It could be a simple filling, or a full crown, depending on how much healthy tooth structure is remaining.

Step 2: Our dentist will use an appropriate dosage of aesthetic to numb the area and prepare your tooth for the restoration by removing decayed and weakened tooth / tissue.

Step 3: After the tooth is prepared, our dentist will create an optical impression of the prepared tooth without using any long setting impression material in your mouth.  A special digital camera is then used to take a digital picture of your tooth. This entire Optical Impression procedure will only take a minute or two.

Step 4: Our dentist will use the CEREC machine 3D software that takes the digital picture and converts it to and create a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen. The dentist will then design the tooth restoration using the CEREC 3D computer program.

Step 5: Within a few minutes of designing the 3D tooth restoration design and a few clicks of a button, the restoration design data is sent to a separate milling machine within our in-house lab. A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine. About 40 minutes later, your all-ceramic, dental filling restoration is finished and ready to bond in place. In the mean time you can sit back and relax in our client lounge

Step 6: Finally, we will try out the crafted restoration in your mouth to ensure proper fit and bite. The restoration will then be polished and bonded to the already prepared tooth. After this process is complete, your entire tooth is finally restored with no “temporary” or return trip required.
